Ballet Leotards

ballet leotardsOne of the most important wardrobe essentials for any dancer is the leotard. Leotards are worn for both practice and performance and can vary in quality, style, size and color. Looking for the perfect leotard can often be a long and drawn out process, but there are a few ways to narrow down your search.

Ballet leotards are comfortable and provide the flexibility you are after when needing something to wear to a dance recital. As a dancer, you know that you need two types for dancing. You need one type for practices and another for the big show.

There are two different style the ballet leotards you can choose :

v      For practices, you want to choose sleeveless leotards. The sleeveless style gives you extra freedom to try out new moves. The benefit of sleeveless is it will keep you cool through practice. You will be working extra hard through practice learning the routine so you don’t want to sweat and feel uncomfortable.

v      For your dance recitals, you want to choose long sleeve leotards. The long sleeved styles are much nicer looking and provide that elegance you look for in a dance outfit. This style will also hide any unsightly blemishes you have on your arms so you don’t have to worry about anyone seeing them. This will give you confidence so you can put on a superior dance show.

Another style option you have is what kind of back you want on your leotards. The classic tank top style is popular but you can also have a sloped or t-back. All of these styles are appropriate for either practice or show time.

Traditionally, most ballet leotards were fairly simple, looking something like a thin bathing suit in its early incarnations, but with a far more breathable material. Modern leotards have gone a step further, coming in bright neon colors and animal patterns – some can even glow in the dark.

During an online search you will even find ones that come in leather suede, silk and, if you can believe it, faux fur! These changes have come with the changing tidal waves of fashion, marking the growing needs of the entertainment industry and women who simply want them for everyday fashion.

Whatever the reason, ballet leotards are and perhaps will always be, a mainstay in the entertainment industry that can marry a bit of spectacle with a dash of the sophisticate.
